Welcome to Year 5!
We are happy to welcome children back into Year 5!
It has been a busy start to our year- with children participating in their first swimming lessons, beginning our new units of learning, and we have worked hard at settling back into life at Mill Hill.
So far in Autumn, we have been exploring the topic of 'Wild Waters'- we started off by foraging and building our own rivers in trays! Followed by exploring the features of a river, and rivers of the world.
This has linked into our English learning. First we explored poetry, writing about rivers, before moving onto the classic text The Wind in the Willows. We are looking at the actions of the impulsive Mr Toad, and did some drama to get into characters! This has helped us with our outcome of writing a speech to either defend or prosecute Mr Toad.
This has also fed into our Art topic this term, where we have been learning about Claude Monet, impressionism and will be taking inspiration from his work to be creating our own pieces.
Please look through our curriculum newsletters to find out more about what we will be learning throughout Year 5, and check back regularly for more updates.
