What have we been learning about?

The Rabbits class have been learning all about the World’s Kitchen and discovering where different foods come from. They found out that food travels from all over the world before it reaches our plates, and this journey is measured in food miles.

Some foods, like potatoes and carrots, can be grown locally in the UK, while others, such as bananas from Ecuador (5,800 miles away) and rice from China (5,000 miles away), have to travel much further. The class were amazed to learn that chocolate comes from cocoa beans grown in Ghana, and it takes 400 cocoa beans to make just one bar of chocolate!

They also explored traditional foods from different countries, like Italy’s famous pasta, which has been made for over 1,000 years, and France, which is home to over 1,600 different types of cheese. One of the most surprising facts was that tea, a drink enjoyed by millions in the UK, often comes from India, which is 4,500 miles away!

The Rabbits have loved learning about food from around the world and now understand why some foods travel so far before they arrive on our plates.
