Get out of my swamp!
Year 1 started with a great topic, learning all about Waterlooville, and in particular, comparing Waterlooville and the local area to traditional fairy tales. We started by learning about different maps, and how they can help us navigate our way around. We used our map to navigate around the school site, creating a key and labelling the area. Once we understood the purpose of maps, we walked from school to Waterlooville, looking at all the different houses, signs and road types, until we reached the centre of Waterlooville. This helped us to see what buildings, places and people made the local area special to us, and how it might be the same or different to fairy tales. The market was on when we arrived, so children got a real taste of a morning market, enjoying all the different items that were being sold that day! The children commented that they don't see markets in a fairy tale book, something they would like to change!
