In World War 1 animals were used in a variety of things like carrying food, water and medical supplies but they also delivered messages by sky and across the battlefield without being hit by bombs. It was mostly horses, mules and camels that carried food and water (sometimes medical supplies like dogs did). Dogs and pigeons mostly carried messages across and through the battlefield without being hit by bombs. Some of those animals are remembered in history in books and memories but we also wear purple poppies on remembrance day to remember the animals that helped out the soldiers.
